Water injection has recently found a home on the BMW M4 GTS, but the technology hasn't really drifted down to more mundane metal yet. Bosch wants to change that, offering up its water injection technology to other manufacturers with the promise of more power and better fuel efficiency from compact turbocharged engines.

The Force is with Sphero's Special Edition BB-8 droid

As far as beeping, rolling robots go in the Star Wars universe, BB-8 did much to steal R2-D2's thunder in The Force Awakens. Klever X brings an alternative look to the e-bike market

Never one to be satisfied with the basic diamond frame, Germany's Klever Mobility has released what could be called its most striking electric bike design yet at Eurobike 2016. The all-new rear-motored X series houses its battery and some open air in a distinctive pentagonal frame designed to accommodate both lads and lasses. It comes in several variants, including a 600-watt "Speed" version that scoots along at up to 28 mph (45 km/h).

Ocean Cleanup's first trash-catching trials cut short by busted boom

When Boyan Slat and his team at the Ocean Cleanup Project dragged their 100-m (330-ft) trash-catching boom out to sea in June, the Dutch entrepreneur gave the system a 30 percent chance of breaking. Unfortunately for Slat, these fears have now materialized with the team having to haul the barrier back into shore after it was bent out of shape by the angry Dutch seas.

World record 213 mph wheelie crowns new World Champion

The 11th World Wheelie Championship ended on a high note after Egbert Van Popta set a new world record on his way to the title. His 213 mph (343 km/h) exit speed after a full kilometer on the back wheel was enough to edge Gary Rothwell's previous record of 210 mph (337 km/h) from last September.

When you get rid of an old phone or tablet, you're likely to remove your valuable information from it, but what about the valuable materials – like gold – that it contains? Naturally, such substances are too hard for consumers to retrieve, which might be why, according to the University of Edinburgh (UE), about seven percent of the world's gold supply is currently locked inside of electronics. While removing that gold has heretofore been a highly toxic and inefficient proposition, researchers now think that a new process will make prospecting for gold in electronics heaps more achievable than ever.

Space particle smacks into Sentinel-1A satellite, leaves sizable dent

ESA's Sentinel-1A satellite has been struck by a space particle while orbiting at a height of 700 km above the Earth. The particle is estimated to have measured only a few millimeters across, yet the impact caused a dent in the solar panel of the spacecraft measuring 40 cm in diameter. It is not yet known whether the debris was manmade or natural in origin.

Stromatolite fossils push back date for start of life on Earth

In a remote, isolated region of Greenland, where ancient rocky outcrops have recently been exposed after a perennial snow thaw, scientists claim to have found fossil proof of the oldest life ever discovered. Consisting of fossilized blue-green algae colonies known as stromatolites, the 3.7-billion-year-old petrified remains are more than 200 million years older than the world's previous oldest stromatolite fossils and are set to rewrite the record books on the age of life in Earth's earliest seas.

Print your own 3D Lucy parts to work out how the famous hominid died

Now you can have your very own 3D printout of some of the bones of Lucy the Australopithecus afarensis, who is, let's face it, the Beyoncé of fossils. Lucy, a very early human ancestor discovered in 1974, has long been at the center of a fierce debate about whether our ancestors ever lived in trees. Open-source scans of the 3.18 million-year-old hominid's arm, shoulder and knee bones are now available to accompany a paper that hypothesizes that Lucy died falling from a tree.

B&O muscles into the home with high-end all-around sound

Danish high-end audio and video manufacturer Bang & Olufsen has launched two stylish wireless 360° speakers at IFA 2016 in Berlin today. The BeoSound 1 is a portable speaker that's promised good for up to 16 hours of cable-free playback, while the BeoSound 2 audio thrower sacrifices portability for increased output. Both sport a circular touch panel to the top that senses where a user is standing and adjusts the orientation of the controls.
