The United States reclaims the title of having the world's most powerful supercomputer as the US Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) unveils a machine capable of handling 200,000 trillion calculations per second (200 petaflops). In a ceremony on Friday, June 8, Secretary of Energy Rick Perry introduced Summit, eight times more powerful than ORNL's previous supercomputer, Titan, which came online in 2012 with a capacity of 27 petaflops.
