Wearables made to warn of asthma attacks

Researchers work with prototype HET wristbands

People with serious asthma already know to avoid certain activities or situations, but even then, attacks can still occur. That's why scientists at North Carolina State University are developing a wearable early warning system known as the Health and Environmental Tracker (HET). Consisting mainly of a wristband and chest patch, the technology monitors patients' bodies and their environment, sending an alert when an attack may be imminent.

A group of Montreal-based entrepreneurs have created what they see as a good compromise, in the form of the SnikkyBike.

Was Planet 9 born of a different star?

A team of researchers from Lund University, Sweden, has run a series of computer simulations to test the likelihood that the as-of-yet undiscovered Planet 9 formed in the orbit of an alien star. Whilst the planet has not yet been directly observed, evidence of its gravitational influence may have been observed perturbing the orbits of six Kuiper Belt objects, leading some to assert that Planet 9 boasts a mass around 10 times that of Earth.
