Review: Call Recorder does what your iPhone can't

Despite all the amazing things that the iPhone can do, it still can't record its own phone calls – or at least, not in a simple manner. While there are call-recording apps that let users route their calls through a third-party network, it's a rather involved approach that most people probably aren't going to bother taking. PhotoFast, however, now offers a hardware-based solution, in the form of a Call Recorder that plugs into the phone. We tried it out, to see just how well it actually works.

Spider silk bridges the gap between busted nerves

Cooling the qubit: Quantum computing gets more stable

Inside today's computers, information is transferred in the form of bits, a basic unit of measurement that can have a value of either zero or one. In the someday world of quantum computing, information will be stored and transferred via qubits – units as small as photons or electrons held steady inside some kind of trap. Because qubits can hold a value as both a zero and one, their use could dramatically increase computational speeds. But qubits are notoriously slippery characters and getting them to stay still, or even to exist very long has been a challenge. Now scientists at MIT have figured out a way to get a simple molecule to remain stable for "hundreds of times longer than researchers have previously achieved in these materials," making a usable qubit closer than ever to reality.

PV panel-packed family EV goes up for pre-order

Last year, German startup Sono Motors embarked on a successful Indiegogo crowdfunding effort to get its electric family commuter into production. The Sion design included 7.5 square meters of photovoltaic panels integrated into the outer skin to charge the batteries while the electric car sat around waiting for someone to drive it. The final pre-production design was revealed in April, and the Sion went up for pre-order a few hours ago.
