Anytime discussion raising the possibility of a genetic basis behind intelligence comes up, we immediately enter a minefield of social and ethical controversies. Not only do we argue over what actually constitutes 'intelligence' in the first place, but what of the ethical considerations if we were able to pinpoint so-called 'smart' genes? Could we create designer babies with super high IQs or develop pills that turn on intelligence genes giving us a temporary smart boost? A new study claims to have pinpointed 52 specific genes that play a major part in determining an individual's intelligence.
