Retinal cells imaged in living eyes

A diagram showing how the retina (orange) receives images and sends them to the brain

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of acquired blindness, and it occurs when cells in the retina die off. Unfortunately, the facts that these cells are transparent and are located on the back inside surface of the eye have made them impossible to image in living eyes. Scientists from the University of Rochester Medical Center have devised a non-invasive system of doing so, however, and it could ultimately be used to catch conditions such as glaucoma before they lead to blindness.

After considerable success with that project, the company went on to launch another campaign for the Leopard, an aero road bike that incorporated the SpeedForce. It was reportedly Kickstarter's most-funded bike-related project ever. Buoyed by that success, SpeedX is now beginning yet another Kickstarter, this time for an even higher-tech road bike known as the Unicorn.
