The Curiosity Mars rover has been a remarkable success except in one area. It's wheels are rubbish and are falling apart faster than expected. To prevent this from happening to future rover missions, NASA's Glenn Research Laboratory is developing a new wire mesh tire made out of special memory alloy that is much tougher than anything previous and may pave the way for larger, more robust rovers and vehicles.
